The contract for the constrction of our new 9000m2 factory in Tongaat, has been awarded to Rubro Construction and entails the development of a 24,000m2 site. The total cost of the development is approximately R50 million, which will inject some much-needed foreign capital into the provincial economy.

On the occasion of the award, Maccaferri Group Managing Director, Mr Luigi Penzo, paid a visit to Durban and officially awarded the contract to Charles Roux, Rubro's Managing Director.

The completion of the factory is expected to be in February 2010 with production resuming in April 2010.

Maccaferri Southern Africa Managing Director, Adriano Gilli, says "The decision of our shareholders to invest in KZN in such a difficult economic climate must be positively read by the industry at large; it's a sign of trust in the country, and in particular in this region, where, for more that 5 decades we have created long-term job opportunities."
