Hydraulic engineering is the study of the behaviour of fluids, typically water, in closed or open conduits. In open channels, such as in rivers or streams, the behaviour of water should be managed in order to protect and stabilize the riverbanks, and stem erosion if equilibrium of the environment is to be maintained.
