Landfills are by definition areas that have been set aside for the safe disposal and storage of industrial and urban waste. The landfill area must be stabilized and totally isolated to prevent leakage into and contamination of the surrounding environment, by the residue and its derivatives. The use of gabions and geosynthetics in isolation or in combination for slope stabilization, reinforcement, drainage and waterproofing are ideal solutions in this type of application.
